Digestate Not Only Affects Nutrient Availability but Also Soil Quality Indicators

Digestate contains many essential nutrients for crops, including nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), it can alter the biogeochemical cycle of soil functionality. This work aimed to assess fertilizing effects digestate on chemical biological properties in a field experiment eastern Portugal with two horticultural crops involving nine treatments: control without fertilization; mineral N fertilization 85 kg ha−1; (DG) increasing rates (85, 170, 255, or 340 ha−1); different combinations plus (DG at 170 60 ha–1 DG 25 ha–1). In addition N, supplied significant amounts P, Ca, K, Mg significantly increased Olsen organic C. At high doses, decreased phosphatase β-glucosidase activities, as well fungi bacterial biomass, compared fertilization, also negatively affected P C cycling capacity microbial biomass. The total ratio are crucial evaluating its agronomic management fertilizer.
